Now that the peace-process seems to be more of less stable - in this area in the east -, many people are returning.
Objective
To improve the health situation of the population in the Ituri province by supplying access to drinking water facilities for the main part of the population and let the water users take up considerable responsibility in the management of the facilities.
Main results
- 15.250 persons have an improved access to drinking water;
- 6.000 persons have an improved access to hygiene and sanitation: promotion of improved toilets and domestic hygiene (disposal, drying frame for dishes, hand wash material etc.) and education on hygiene in schools via the HAMS committees (Hygiène et Assainissement en Milieu Scolaire).
- The water systems managed by the water users remain functional.
