Partners

The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Malgassian NGO Frères de St.Gabriël, with technical support provided by the drinking water companies VMW (Belgium) and JIRAMA (Madagascar).

Target Groups

The direct target group is estimated at 10.000 individuals in the poor neighbourhoods bordering the city centre.

Objectives

Sustainable improvement of Service Delivery in water and sanitation for the people in the popular quarters of Toamasina.

Main results

  • Access to drinking water for 8.000 individuals;
  • Sanitary services, training, formation and awareness raising result in improved behaviour of 300 families and 1.000 pupils of the relevant neighbourhoods with respect to hygiene and sanitation;
  • Toamasina village takes up its role and responsibility in the water and sanitation sector as foreseen in the  “Code de l’eau’ which includes a central level of decentralisation in cooperation with local stakeholders.
  • JIRAMA has improved its drinking water service delivery in Toamasina.
